Description

Get Active is the new alternative way to get involved in activity during your time at university.

 

Get Active is a fitness and wellness based activity programme here at UWLSU. We have activity classes and sessions running each week and the idea is that you can do as much, or as little as you like. The aim is just to increase your level of fitness, to meet new people and to make exercising fun. We'll also have special 'concept' sessions running throughout the year - keep a look out for those!

Get Active is the perfect way to fit exercise into your busy schedule, whether you're a full time student, busy parent, live locally or further afield.  

 

How does it work?

Get Active memberships cost just £20 for the whole year. Then you can attend as many classes as you like.

Step 1: Join online for £20

Step 2: Book the class(es) you wish to attend (please note, this is on a first come, first served basis).

  • You can book in person at St Mary's Road SU Reception or at our SU office at Paragon House
  • Alternatively, email uwl.su@uwl.ac.uk
  • Please be aware, we need two hours notice for cancellations so we can pass your place to somebody else.

 

Where do I go to Get Active?

Activities will take place at St. Mary’s Road and Paragon House campuses, with select dates scheduled for Reading students at Fountain House. Please note that Paragon House sessions are for Paragon House residents only.

All classes begin on Monday 26 September and run on a weekly basis. Once you've paid your £20 joining fee, please email us at uwl.su@uwl.ac.uk register your place for ongoing classes or for more information.

Membership

  • Members may not bring guests or spectators.
  • You must present your UWL ID card to gain entry. Your membership cannot be used by another person. 
  • All members must be 18 years old or over when taking out a membership
  • All memberships will expire on the 31st of August 2017.

Cancellation and Termination

  • UWLSU has a 14 day refund policy. Refund requests after that 14 day period will be denied.
  • Refund request forms should be completed at the UWLSU reception desk, with proof of purchase
  • UWLSU cannot be held responsible if the refund request form is not completed correctly
  • The sport and events manager has the final say on all refund request.
  • UWLSU reserves the right to expel a member from a facility, suspend for a specific period or refuse to renew the membership of any member whose conduct is or may, in UWLSU’s reasonable opinion, be injurious to the character of the facility or amounts to a breach of the Terms and Conditions or where such expulsion is otherwise in the interests of other members of the facility. UWLSU will not be obligated to disclose reasons for cancellation to clients or any other third party.
  • UWLSU reserves the right to terminate memberships without refund as a result of closure of the gym facility.

Limitation of Liability

  • UWLSU cannot be held responsible for any service or equipment not being available for whatever reason.
  • UWLSU reserves the right to make alterations to the type of facilities provided, without notice and at its absolute discretion, and UWLSU shall not be liable for any loss occasioned by such alterations except so far as such loss is by law incapable of exclusion.
  • It is the member’s responsibility to ensure that they are capable of undergoing a routine of exercise provided by any programme that they follow or class that they attend. Members accept the risk of injury from performing exercises and are advised to consult their doctor prior to beginning any class or programme.

General

  • Appropriate clothing must be worn whilst taking part in activities. No jeans or marking shoes allowed.
  • No smoking is permitted in or around the building.   
  • No glass is permitted in the gym
  • No food or mobile phones are permitted whilst taking part in activities.
  • Always show respect for fellow users by keeping noise levels down.
  • All personal property must be kept in lockers provided whilst taking part in activities. UWLSU cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal property. Personal property cannot be kept in lockers overnight. All belongings left in the gym and changing facility overnight will be removed and remain in lost property for 2 weeks and will be returned when a charge is paid. Any items left in lost property in excess of 2 weeks will be disposed of.
  • UWLSU reserves the right to refuse admission to the gym.

Opening Times

  • Details of opening times and availability of facilities may vary, UWLSU reserves the right to change these as needed.
  • Opening time can be found on UWLSU website. Notice of any significant variations will be given by UWLSU to its members.

Use of facilities

  • A member is entitled to use the gym providing that UWLSU may at any time, with notice and where practicable, withdraw all or part of its facilities for any period of time in connection with any cleaning, repair, alteration or maintenance work or for reasons beyond the control of UWLSU

Gym and classes

  • All members must complete a PAR - Q form before undertaking any classes and/or using the UWLSU gym facility.
  • If members have any concerns regarding their physical condition, they are advised not to undertake any strenuous physical activity without first seeking medical advice. UWLSU reserves the right to refuse access to the gym to any member if it considers that the health of the individual may be endangered by the use of such facilities.
  • Members must notify UWLSU staff of any circumstances affecting their health, which may be exacerbated through continued use of gym or fitness classes.
  • Members should not use any piece of equipment they do not know how to use
  • Members must not demonstrate or teach other members how to use equipment or weights unless they hold the relevant qualification
  • Gym inductions are available on requests, these can be booked in at UWLSU reception, or via the UWLSU website

No person under the age of 18 is permitted to use any gym or attend fitness classes
