This year 2,214 students voted in the annual Student Union (SU) Elections which were held between the 13th – 16th of March at the St. Mary’s Road, Brentford and Reading campuses, as well as online. This was the highest voter turnout in this history of the SU.
In total 13 candidates stood for the 3 available positions of President, Vice President Education and Vice President Activities.
A big congratulations to the following candidates won their respective elections:
Kat Hackshaw – President
Kat is currently the Vice President of Activities. She completed her BA (Hons) in Event Management in 2017. She is passionate about supporting students with mental health issues, housing and their cost of living. She is also committed to representing UWL student’s interests on the national stage.
Janine Braithwaite – Vice President Education
Janine is a third year student studying a BSc in Health Promotion and Public Health. She is passionate about representing students, is a Course Representative and recently spoke at the Course Representative Conference, telling her story to inspire others. Janine is also a mother and cares about making UWL accessible to all students, whether they are mature, a parent or have a disability.
Jacob Pepper – Vice President Activities
Jacob is a second year student studying a B Music Performance and Recording and is the Captain of the Rugby Club. He is passionate about ensuring that the University ensures that services and activities are accessible to all students and wants to build a strong sense of charity and giving back amongst the student community. Jacob would like to see continued improvements to the quality of teaching spaces at Brentford, more diversity in social activities undertaken by the SU and greater transparency in the way student fees are spent.
Kat, Janine and Jacob will take up their posts from 1 July 2018. Kat will continue to serve in the role of Vice President Activities until that time. Between now and June, Dave Titley will also continue in his role as President and Zahra Choudhry will continue in the role of Vice President of Education.
