What's your name and what course do you study?

My name is Marisha and I study PhD Psychology. I am currently in the third year.

Why did you decide to become a school rep?

I wanted to become a school rep because I want to help students enjoy their experience at the university. I feel that it is important for students to understand how to navigate their courses and try to find solutions to any feedback they may have about different topics. I want students to be aware of the different support services that we have at UWL and I would like students to feel comfortable to voice any possible improvements in any area.

What do you hope to achieve in this role?

I hope to support the communication between students and academic staff by working as a link to make sure that feedback is shared efficiently and clearly. I hope to contribute to the student experience by identifying issues and working with staff members to find practical and effective solutions. I would like to maintain a strong student community by helping students feel heard, supported and connected. I would like to advocate for possible improvements with learning resources, facilities, professional development and other factors that are relevant to students.

How do you plan to represent and support students in your school?

The School of Human and Social Sciences includes multiple courses in different subjects, so I feel that it is important to make sure all students have a say and they feel heard. I would like to hear about their academic experience, this could include assessment clarity, any feedback about modules and access to academic support. Giving support in employability would be helpful for students, so I would like to make sure that they are aware of career events, professional speakers and networking opportunities related to their subjects. I feel that signposting a student to the appropriate student support service is important too.
