Welcome to the UWL Space & Aerospace Society

Who we are:

The UWL Space & Aerospace society is a student-led society for anyone interested in space, aerospace engineering, rockets, satellites, astronomy, space technology and much more!!

Whether you're aiming for a career in the space industry, enjoy the idea of stargazing and astronomy or simply just want to understand how rockets and aircraft actually work, this society is most definitely for you.

Our aim is to create a welcoming and inclusive community for students of all backgrounds and experience levels, where students can learn by doing, gain practical skills, and explore the future of space and aerospace together. You do not need any previous experience, just interest, enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.

What we do:

Throughout the year we run a mix of different activities, here are an example of a few:

  • Rocket design and launch projects, including participating in the UKSEDS National Rocketry Championship 2026

  • Space engineering and Satellites, hands on exposure to real space systems and concepts

  • Astrophotography workshops and telescope stargazing nights

  • Learn technical skills with tools like OpenRocket, CAD, and other aerospace related software.

  • Host guest speakers, Q&A sessions and career events from the space and aerospace sector

  • Organise trips, socials (such as movie nights, quizzes), and collaborations with other STEM societies, and other.

We are also in the process of becoming an UKSEDS Branch, giving members access to national competitions, specialist training, networking events, and wider opportunities within the UK Space Sector.
