Ancha Joof, President

What's your name and what course do you study?

My name is KJ Adams and I study MFA - Professional Acting w/ Independent Project - 2026

Why did you decide to become a school rep?

I was actually motivated by Professors and Head of my School to apply around the end of my first year. I felt that the help DSL and UWL gave me before even getting to London was so fantastic and smooth it gave me the confidence and emotional clarity to trust the process of moving to another country for a new beginning and I’ve loved it ever since and want to be a part of that same process for current and future students.

What do you hope to achieve in this role?

This academic year I want everyone to be seen, heard, understood and made to feel welcomed in every facet of the term, regardless of their background. I feel this is important to me particularly because, as an artist, our sole way of communicating is through our body, mind, and soul in the medium of art.

How do you plan to represent and support students in your school?

Firstly, by creating safe spaces for the conversations to happen. That being: After school meetings, zoom sessions, or even just simply social hangouts. As artists and students, we have the complex jobs of studying and performing very dense and complex stories of characters and sometimes real people. Especially people who come from different places and people who look nothing like you. For us to work together with one another in the classroom and on stage we have to share a space to communicate with one another first and get to know who we’re working with because you never know who you’ll be collaborating with in the future.
