What's your name and what course do you study?

Hi everyone! My name is Joy, and I’m so excited to be the LSFMD School Rep! This will be my 3rd and final year at UWL studying for a BA Hons in Journalism.

Why did you decide to become a school rep?

As a student and former course rep, I know how important it is to have someone there who you can go to about anything. It’s an essential part of knowing that you are heard and cared about. Something I really loved as a course rep was being the person students could come to with questions or feedback. Therefore, I wanted a role where I could utilise the skills I gained to support students from across LSFMD.

What do you hope to achieve in this role?

This year, I hope to support greater communication between students, course reps, and staff. As a school, we have extensive support available to us however, throughout my time as course rep, I’ve seen that not every student knows how to access the resources they need or make their voice heard. Therefore, my aim is to advocate for unheard voices and help students build meaningful connections with their lecturers and peers so that they themselves can support others and find solutions quickly and satisfactorily.

How do you plan to represent and support students in your school?

I believe that an essential part of student representation is taking the time to listen to and deeply understand the feedback of everyone in our school. Through doing so, I hope to both raise awareness and give students the confidence to know that they themselves can drive positive change. This year, I hope to support in finding positive outcomes for students and show that every voice matters at UWL.
