What's your name and what course do you study?
Hi, I’m Sukhman Kaur, a third-year student studying Business Studies with Digital Marketing at UWL.
Why did you decide to become a school rep?
I wanted to be a rep because I don’t see University as just lectures, assignments and deadlines - I see it as this chapter in our lives that shapes who we are, where you meet people who inspire you and create memories that stick with you long after graduation. For me, being a rep is about improving the student experience so that people feel motivated to give their best and enjoy their time here. I want everyone to look back and think, “wow, those years were special.” If I can play even a small part in creating that, I’ll be happy.
What do you hope to achieve in this role?
I want this year to feel like more than just lectures and deadlines. Sure grades are important, but I also want students to actually enjoy their time here and make learning fun. Whether it’s through better communication, more support for things that stress us out or even pushing for practical opportunities like trips, workshops, or real-world experiences (because learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom), I want to make University feel alive. A little more colour, a little less grey.
How do you plan to represent and support students in your school?
By keeping my ears (and heart) open. I’ll be proactive in asking students what’s going on for them and keep myself available and approachable, whether it’s over coffee, in class, or even during a random chat in the hallway. Beyond that, I’d like to encourage more opportunities for students to connect outside of lectures, like workshops, trips, or just simple chances to bond.
