We offer a variety of sports clubs and societies that range from Rugby to UWLSU Islamic Society. Not only are Student Groups a great way to build your character at University but they also offer you a chance to make life long friends, while potentially learning something new.
All of the Sports Clubs and Societies have requirements to join such as a cost or contacting certain students/staff.
The best thing about a Student Group is that if you don't see one you like, you can make your own. To find out more about this come in and talk to the SU team, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
We have a selection of well-established sports clubs that train weekly throughout the year that are available for all students to join. They currently include:
These clubs accept members at any point in the year and membership is open to any student regardless of their experience level in the sport. So if you have always wanted to start scoring trys in rugby, climbing the side of mountains or picking up a racket, then joining up to a student club is the way to do it. Beginners are always welcome.
Also don't forget about our annual sports competition VARSITY! Where every year we play against the University of Westminster to see who is the true champion of sport. This involves a large amount of our sports team and is the largest sporting activity of the year with over 500 students in attendance.
At the end of every academic year we hold a 'Union Awards' where we recognise the fantastic effort by our student sports clubs with awards for players, teams and presidents.
Joining a sports team could just be one of the best decisions you make at university.
Societies are an amazing way to make friends at University that can help shape your whole academic experience. Whether you have a shared hobbie, have a passion for culture or just want to see what certain groups to have offer, there is always something for you.
We currently support over 20 societies and this number is constantly expanding as student's setup more and more. There really is something for everyone, and if there isn’t something for you then we will gladly help you set up a new society to help bring something new to campus.
At the moment we currently have:
To see them all or to join one take a look here
We also have a successful radio station known as Blast Radio which is presented and managed by UWL students especially for the students on campus.
